Sichel plans ambitious year

Orkney ultra endurance athlete William Sichel has ambitious plans for the 2007 season of ultra distance running events.  Starting a season for the very first time as a World No 1, William has his eyes on a series of records and personal bests.

“Ending last year as World No1 in the Six Day event has given me a huge confidence boost and I want to feed off that this year.  We learnt a lot during the Six Day event and we plan to carry those lessons forward this year.”

William’s season kicks off with a British Record attempt in the Czech Indoor 48 Hour Championships in Brno from March 16th-18th.

April will see William head to the warmer climes of Lanzarote for a two week spell of warm weather training.  This will get him into peak condition for the Swiss 24 Hour Championships in Basel on May 12th and 13th. This is the venue where William set his current 24 hour best of 153.3 miles in 2000.

July is expected to be a trip to Austria for their 24 Hour Championships in Worschach.  Always a hot race but very well organised and a super course with big crowd support.  A great place to challenge for the British 24 Hour age group record of 155 miles.

In September William plans to return to Greece in order to improve his personal best in the world’s longest point-to-point race the Spartathlon – 153 miles from Athens to Sparta.

Finally William will return to Monaco in November and attempt to set a new British road record in the Six Day event which he won last year.

William is grateful to sponsors: dion_networks, Loganair, Sheila Fleet Jewellery and The Orcadian.

End.
