SICHEL CELEBRATES CLIMB TO WORLD No2
With the final 6 day ultra distance race of the year having now been completed, Orkney based, ultra distance internationalist, William Sichel, 55, is now confirmed as the World No 2 ranked athlete for 2008. In addition to this, in a head-to-head with the eventual World No1, Wolfgang Schwerk of Germany, William was the victor.
William's performance of 532.6 miles (that's over 20 marathons) completed in the heat of July in Hamm, Germany means that William moves up from 3rd last year to 2nd this year in the overall world rankings compiled from all known 6 day performances this year.
William remains unbeaten in his specialist 6 day event and has never been out of the world top 3 since his debut in this event in 2006.
It has been particularly pleasing this year to split the two athletes who have dominated this event for the past decade, Wolfgang Schwerk and Yiannis Kouros of Greece.
In the 48 hour event William remains in 12th place - the same as last year.
William is grateful to sponsors: Myprotein, Loganair & The Orcadian End.
