BBC to cover attempt on 127 year old athletic record
BBC local radio station Radio Orkney are to provide daily updates for their listeners when local athlete, William Sichel, 55, makes his second attempt on Scotland’s oldest athletic record in Athens, Greece starting on April 3rd.
The historic 6 Day record currently belongs to George Cameron who ran under the professional name of ‘Noremac’. He covered just over 567 miles during a 6 Day race in New York in 1882.
In his first serious attempt at the record in Hamm, Germany last July William just fell short covering 532.6 miles whilst winning the event by a huge margin.
William, as a cancer survivor himself (see Cancer Story: www.williamsichel.co.uk/cancer_story.php) will use the event to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
