Sichel takes fifth place with Personal Best in 48 Hour ‘World Championships’

Orkney’s ultra distance runner William Sichel SET A NEW PERSONAL BEST when coming fifth place overall, and first in his age group, in the prestigious Surgères 48 Hour race in western France on Friday 16th to Sunday 18th May.

William covered 1130 laps of the 301metre cinder track, giving him a distance of 211.7miles (340.7Km), or just under 9 back to back Marathons.

An invitation only event with the Worlds leading multiday athletes gathered for the 48 Hour ‘World Championships", and William had a fantastic battle to hold off last years winner, Masayuki Otaki from Japan, and beat him by less than half a lap.

William was very happy with his debut performance at this event, especially as he had the pre race drama of his flight from Aberdeen being delayed, hence arriving a day late and just making the start line.

"Having been honoured with an invitation to this race I was really delighted to come up with such a good performance".

William's next race will be the 6 day Hamm track race in Germany -
29th June to 5th July

William is grateful to sponsors: Myprotein, Loganair & The Orcadian

End.
