The Palo Tunel Factory Shop

Surprisingly, the best value cycle clothing can be found at the factory shop where the Palo Tunel herb liqueurs are made. The quality kit is made by Exte-Ondo, yet in 2002 a green Tunel jersey cost only 16 Euros (about £10). Again it’s worth phoning 971 60 44 60 to check opening times, and stocks, to avoid a 70 mile wasted trip! They sell a complete range of clothing, including sleeveless jerseys which you can’t get from pro teams’ kit, so bring a bag if you want value for money.

Follow the route as described for Gomila’s bike shop along the “Waterpipe Road”. Then instead of turning right towards Binissalem continue on the “Waterpipe Road” to Santa Maria del Cami. Turn right at T junction entering town, then left at junction by church, and cross by-pass towards Portol on PM301. In Portol leave the crazed road surface, turning right through Sa Cabaneta. At junction with old main road at Can Farienta, turn left, and you’ll find the factory shop on the right.

Don’t be misled by references to being at Marratxi, a nearby hamlet – the name applies to the general locality! The range of bottles at the shop equals the very best “duty free” type outlets, if you happen to come by car, (you are only about 5 miles from Palma airport as the crow flies). You will probably need to stop at a nearby bar, before returning. The most direct route is the way you came – the “Waterpipe Road” always seems different from the other direction. Otherwise loop through Sencelles, and then towards Inca, before picking up the “Waterpipe Road” again.
