Ultra Resources > Majorca for Cycling > Petra and Bon Any Sanctuary

This is a basic circuit of around 55 miles: You can play an almost infinite number of variations to extend or reduce the distance, or just to introduce variety over several weeks.

Take main road, C712, south from Port d’Alcudia, and continue through Can Picafort. About 8 miles further, turn right onto PM333 to Petra. Look for signs to Bon Any Sanctuary, and test your legs on the climb. Enjoy the magnificent views, before returning to Petra for a café stop (there is no café at the Sanctuary). Look for square, behind another, to find bars popular with cyclists. The Sanctuary climb is of course optional! From Petra go north on PM334 towards Santa Margarita, ignoring turnings for Ariany and for Maria de la Salut; but before Santa Margarita look for turn to left, where PM352 joins from Maria de la Salut, to go directly to Muro. Continue to Sa Pobla, following signs for Pollensa but take care to find turn to right through the marshes to Alcudia.

A shorter loop can be achieved by turning right off the C712 before the Petra road, to go directly to Santa Margarita on the PM340 missing Petra. For a longer loop, turn right off the C712 after the Petra road, to go to Manacor, then take the road from Manacor to Petra. For alternative extension leave Petra west to Sant Joan, then either directly north through Sineu, or via Montuiri to Sineu, then Llubi to Sa Pobla.

If you want even more miles follow the road from Can Picafort all the way to Arta, turn right on C715 towards Sant Llorenc, then left to Son Severa. Maybe lunch at Cala Bona by the quiet harbour, then take the road towards Porto Cristo, but turn right through Son Carrio, and the quiet road to Manacor.
